Warranty Information

1. Will the HBC100 helmet communicator work with my phone?

- The HBC100 will work with any Bluetooth phone that supports Hands Free Profile/Headset Profile (HFP/HS).
- Make sure your phone’s software is current and up to date. Check your phone manufacturer to find out if you are using the latest software version.
- Check your phone/Bluetooth device to see if it also supports Audio/Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP) and Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) for streaming music. The audio quality is significantly better when audio is streamed through AVRCP and A2DP than Hands Free Profile (HFP).

2. What Bluetooth profiles does the HBC100 support?

- The HBC100 supports the following Bluetooth profiles:
- Hand Free Profile (HFP)
- Headset Profile (HSP)
- Audio/Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP)
- Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP)
- Hi-Fi Stereo 20-20.000 Hz versus standard Bluetooth 500 to 4.000 Hz
- Bluetooth v2.1, class 2, EDR

3. How do I get the highest sound quality from my headset?

- As a rule of thumb, turn the volume down on your master pairing Bluetooth device (mobile phone, Garmin, etc.) to 70% of the maximum volume. Sound quality is dependent on the capabilities of your pairing device.
- Try experimenting with your pairing device, turn the volume to 50%, 75% and 100% to find which combination works best for your settings.

4. How can I set the volume on my HBC100?

- You can set the volume on your HBC100 by pushing the up/down button to increase/decrease the volume. When the volume level is set, the HBC100 will store that volume setting so the next time the device is connected it will automatically start at that associated volume level.
- The HBC100 also uses Automatic Speaker Loudness for communication. This feature increases the volume depending on the environment noise level. However you can still adjust the volume manually.

5. Is the HBC100 helmet communicator hands free?

- Yes! The HBC100 features voice activation which allows for hands free calls pick up, simply say “Pickup” or “Hello” to activate an incoming call.
- The HBC100 uses Adaptive Speech Activity Detection for Voice Command which works with your phones voice command software.
- *Note* The performance of voice activation for the HBC100 is dependent on voice command software within your mobile phone. Voice command software can be temperamental and “hit or miss” whether you are using the HBC100 or not.

6. How do I install the HBC100 helmet communicator on my helmet?

- The HBC100 comes with 2 mounting options. The first is a removable clip with rubber grip that is secured on the helmet shell between the padding. The second more permanent option is a bracket with double sided tape that is adhered to the outside of the helmet.
- Once the clip is installed on your helmet, slide the control unit, with the UCLEAR logo facing up, on the clip until you hear a click.
- Install the speakers symmetrically in the ear pockets of your helmet and tuck the speaker wire into the padding.
- Fully insert the speaker wire into the control unit until you can no longer see the 3 ridges on the speaker wire plug.

7. Which side of the permanent metal mounting bracket faces up?

- Make sure that permanent metal mounting clip is installed with the 2 side holes at the top and the metal prong pointing down.

8. Will the HBC100 helmet communicator fit on my helmet?

- The HBC100 will fit on most helmets, ½ face, ¾ face, flip face or modular helmets. As long as your helmet has speaker pockets or a place for the speakers, the HBC100 will most likely work with your helmet.
- The HBC100 also comes with Velcro adhesive stickers to secure the speakers to helmets without cloth liners.
- You can use the HBC100 on most helmets:
- Motorcycle
- Motocross
- ATV
- Snowmobile
- Ski or Snowboard
- Or any other headgear with speaker pockets.
- The “Adaptive Beam Forming Microphone Technology forms a “sweet spot” around your mouth to pick-up your voice while eliminating environment noise such as wind and engine noise. Therefore you can use it with an open face helmet. You can take a call on the road and the person you’re talking to will not hear the environmental noises - wind, engine, traffic - around you.
- UCLEAR offers an accessory kit, the SPKAP Accessory Pack, which includes a speaker set for installation in a second helmet. Install the extra speakers in your second helmet and then transfer the main controller unit from one helmet to the other without having to remove and re-install a single set of speakers.

9. Can I use the HBC100 for other sports?

- The HBC100 speakers can be installed in any helmet with speaker pockets, therefore you can use the HBC100 on most helmets:
- Motorcycle
- Motocross
- ATV
- Snowmobile
- Ski or Snowboard
- Or any other headgear with speaker pockets.
- Our speakers are hi-fi, thin bodied and fit comfortably in your helmet. The back of each speaker has Velcro, hook and loop fasteners that keep them securely in place in helmet liners.
- The HBC100 also comes with Velcro adhesive stickers to secure the speakers to helmets without cloth liners.
- UCLEAR offers an accessory kit, the SPKAP Accessory Pack, which includes a speaker set for installation in a second helmet. Install the extra speakers in your second helmet and then transfer the main controller unit from one helmet to the other without having to remove and re-install a single set of speakers.

10. Is my HBC100 weatherproof?

- Yes, you can use the HBC100 in the rain and snow and in temperatures from -4°F to 140°F (-20°C to 60°C).

11. What do I do if I only get sound from one speaker?

- Be sure to fully insert the speaker wire into the main unit using your thumb and forefinger.
- Insert the speaker wire into the main unit until you can no longer see the 3 rings on the speaker wire plug.
- This will ensure a full audio connection and makes the HBC100 weatherproof.

12. Why are my speakers cutting out when I turn my head?

- Some phones transmit a weaker Bluetooth signal that others. If your speakers cut out when you turn your head, try moving the phone or Bluetooth device closer to the headset, for example carry your phone in your left chest pocket.

13. When I call or intercom someone, I can hear them but they can’t hear me?

- First make sure that the speaker wire plug is fully inserted into the control unit so you can no longer see the 3 ridges on the speaker wire plug.
- Make sure that the microphones lined up symmetrically in your helmet so that the microphones in the speakers are pointing at the same angle towards your mouth. If the microphones are not aligned properly, they will not be able to create an effective cone around your mouth to isolate your voice.

14. What do I do if I experience poor sound quality when I use my HBC100?

- Bluetooth music capable devices can stream music either through HFP (Hands Free Profile) or A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile). Of these two Bluetooth profiles, A2DP offers much better sound quality.
- Although most phones convert to A2DP when synced with an A2DP enabled music device such as the HBC100, they sometimes with activate in HFP. If this happens, the sound quality will be muffled or hollow. To determine if your phone is streaming music through A2DP or HFP, ‘double press’ the answer button on HBC100. If music stops and starts when repeating the action the phone is operating in A2DP. If the music does not stop and start with these actions, it tells you that music is being play through HFP.
- To stop HFP and access A2DP, first stop the music with controls on cell phone. Next, ‘double press’ the answer button on HBC100 to restart the music. If this doesn’t work on first attempt, repeat the process a couple of times until A2DP is activated. If this does not work, restart both the phone and HBC100, then ‘double press’ the answer button on HBC100 to start the music. If this does not work, check with the phone manufacturer to make sure it is A2DP enabled.
- Make sure that you Bluetooth device(s) is operating with the manufacturer’s latest software updates.

15. How many Bluetooth devices can be paired with the HBC100?

31. How does the noise suppression technology work?

- ULCEAR’s advanced digital microphone array technology eliminates the need for a close-talk microphone. UCLEAR’s superior approach to noise suppression technology separates wanted audio information from unwanted noise with the use of multi stage processing implemented using multiple Digital Signal Processing (DSP) based algorithms. Its purpose is to create an extremely versatile algorithm able to handle a huge variety of noise types and other acoustical issues that would normally disrupt mobile communications. This technology forms a beam or “sweet spot” around your mouth that picks up your voice while intelligently eliminating environmental noise such as engine or wind noise. You can read and hear how this technology works on our website. http://uclear-digital.com/technology.html

32. What does full duplex mean?
